The Cat Returns (Neko no Ongaeshi)

Good stuff folks. From Studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away), this movie is awesome. Strange, funny, and fun to watch. You can get it cheap on eBay.

Finished watching Please Teacher the other night. A little odd and derivative, but fun and worth a rental I guess. Felt like it should have been 26 episodes instead of 13. Marie's my favorite character, I think. Here she is, angry at a snail.
Working on Love Hina now, which gives me way fewer sexual deviancy heebie-jeebies than the manga.
Been on a movie kick.
I, Robot - Did a much better job than I expected. Good stuff.
13 Going on 30 - Big, with a girl and a happier ending.
The Chronicles of Riddick - Big cool things go kerblooie!
Hellboy - A whole lotta fun. Good characters, want a sequel.
Mean Girls - Pretty darn good, clever story, unusual ending.
Elf - Really really funny, might become a Christmas classic.
Up next: Morvern Callar and Human Traffic Remixed.
Also started a new BBC series, Brian Dooley's The Smoking Room. Clever show with a one room set.
Was doing some digging for an eBay sale, and I found the following review for the Def Jux Robots DVD:
(Four Stars) cornholey but not opressively so...,
Reviewer: A viewer (corn town USA)
This dvd was fresh while maintaining a snizzle of flinkteringness. i wouldn't call it overtly blanglerful, but i would advise taking it with a jug of turpentine.
Blanglerful?
Watch it. I don't know what else I can say about it. BitTorrent required.
Fullmetal Alchemist is like crack. No it's worse than crack. It's like crack with a storyline and a kick-ass theme song.
I actually considered cosplay for a minute. Somebody shoot me.
Someone should start Anime Anonymous, but the alcoholics took the damn initials.
Well, I'm out of Full Metal Alchemist episodes to watch, so I figured I'd watch FLCL (aka Fooly Cooly or Furi Kuri). I've only watched one episode, but I believe that it just might be the greatest anime I have ever seen that involves a guy taking repeated blows to the head. Click for the enlarging and whatnot.
Yes, she is licking a Louisville Slugger.
Coming up next episode! Cat! And much smaller fucked up looking Cat!
Going to see Hero this weekend? (Snob Alert) Been there, done that. Lovers is the movie to see. Here's a Wallpaper to put on your coffeehouse laptop so you can be all cool and ahead of the curve.
Other movies of note: God-Diva (Blade Runner meets King Tut)
Mach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of painful looking fighting mayhem, and website music that makes your booty wiggle.
Honesty, it took a while for it to sink in. When I heard about this film, my Pre-Spider-Man-X-Men movie instincts kicked in, and I filed it in the back of my head under "Gonna Be A Big Disappointment."
That was before I saw these pictures, and read this:
Directed By: Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller
Segment Director: Quentin Tarantino
Cast: Bruce Willis (Hartigan), Mickey Rourke (Marv), Clive Owen (Dwight), Elijah Wood (Kevin), Nick Stahl (Junior/Yellow Bastard), Carla Gugino (Lucille), Brittany Murphy (Shellie), Jaime King (Goldie/Wendy), Jessica Alba (Nancy), Josh Hartnett, Marley Shelton, Maria Bello (Ava Lord), Rosario Dawson (Gail), Benicio Del Toro (Jack), Devon Aoki (Miho), Alexis Bledel (Becky), Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Madsen, Rick Gomez, Sherrell Murphy-Ramos, Scott Teeters, Arie Verveen, Tommy Nix, Makenzie Vega, Lauren-Elaine Edleson, Jason McDonald, and Jason Douglas.
I am taking the day off, and the next day off just to get drunk in celebration. I cannot explain how fucking exciting this is.
So far, the most info I found was here.
Thanks to Jarrett for this bizarre video.
Be aware: ABC's new show Lost is a fatty trunkload of pimp. Watched the first episode on a lark (heard the effects were cool), and I not only got a hour of truly suspense-filled TV, but a hell of an unexpected surprise as well (But only if you're old enough to know who Sid and Marty Krofft are.). I could be wrong about the surprise part, but if I'm not, this could be an amazingly cool series.
I know it's five years away, but no more Leno is something deserving one of those online countdown timers or something. 2009 will mark the beginning of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Awesome. More at Reuters
Sorry, but I never enjoyed Leno. I think Conan is much more in the mindset that will fit the show that Johnny Carson made great.
Just watched the second episode of Lost. This show is great. Really really great. Problem is, you miss an episode, and you're pretty much behind the curve. Luckily, Episodes 1 and 2 are going to air again this Saturday night at seven (central time).
Watch these shows. Tivo them, tape them, download them, whatever. You will not be disappointed.
Banlieue 13. Ooo. Gotta see this.

Looking something like Amélie gone slutty, Alizée isn't really that good a singer, and her lyrics suck. Still, she's sold over 4 million albums.
Or download the same reason here. The guys will probably want to go with this option.

I dug the hell out of the trailer for this, but I never went to see it in the theatre because of all the really bad reviews. Watched it today, and thought it was a lot of fun. Don't see where all the hate came from. It's not gonna win any oscars or anything, but I'm glad I saw it.

Matrix, Schmatrix. If the Wachowski brothers mess this up, legions of rabid comic fans are going after them with sticks. With nails in them. And guns on the end that shoot bears. Bears that are on fire.
The Virgin Suicides
Solid work from Sofia Coppola, but it's no Lost in Translation. Wish I had seen it first.
Igby Goes Down
Some great writing, some great scenes, and some great acting, but I find it really hard to empathize with "rich kid having a hard time" movies.
Honey
Kind of a bad movie, but the dancing was fun to watch. Jessica Alba is fun to watch. Hopefully her work from this will enhance Sin City.
I started watching Huff for three reasons: Hank Azaria, Oliver Platt, and the hope of seeing Paget Brewster naked. What I got is one of the best shows on television, and yet another nail in the coffin of FCC controlled broadcast TV. And Paget Brewster naked (whee!).
Aside from the fact that every person on this show gives a near perfect performance, the most startling thing about it is the brutal honesty. Every situation is carried out with the character's most personal moments put on display not just for others to see, but for others to empathize with. The amazing thing is that the smaller the moment is, the more powerfully it comes across. Truly great TV.
The first season is nearly over, so I would suggest snagging the DVDs when they come out.
Mmm. Paget Brewster. I should note that aside from Andy Richter Controls the Universe, she's really done a lot of crap. Hotness aside, I'm really glad to see her in something good.

Well, I watched every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. All seven seasons. In about a month. Like crack it is.
The two most notable things I learned from watching TNG: The quality of episodes ranged from really really great to utter crap, and Wesley Crusher hooked up with Ashley Judd.
Quoting the FAQ from WilWheaton.net:
Is it true that you were really Ashley Judd's first onscreen kiss, and you ruined her for the rest of her life?
Yep. It is 100% true. Ashley Judd played Robin Lefler, in the episode "The Game", and Uncle Willie went to bootytown.
Eek.
Not really, buy you have to love a movie called Kung-Fu Hustle.
Skinny Puppy made a hella cool music video. Found on the somewhat awesome video site Blastro.
Jake in Progress is a good new show. Cuts is not. Yet I watch both. I don't understand me.

Better than NextGen, a great Oceans Eleven homage, and probably the most heart wrenching last thirty seconds of any show ever. Awesome.
Now on to Voyager!
OK, here's the deal. If you haven't seen Saw, but you plan on seeing it eventually, go rent/buy it now, tonight, this minute. There's little I hate more than people who ruin movies for you, and this one can be ruined with about five words. Trust me. It's not the greatest movie ever, but I liked it, and you'll hate the person that no doubt will screw it up. That's all I'm going to say.
If you don't want to see it, never mind.
GreenCine has started a page of Movie Genre Primers to let you get a foot in the door on certain film styles and movements. Handy for your next trip to the Alamo Drafthouse.

So, I finally finished trudging through the seven seasons of Star Trek: Voyager. What the hell. Seriously, what the hell.
Not a good way to follow up Deep Space Nine, and probably the worst series ending ever. Still, there were several episodes that I thought were really good, and several that had me laughing out loud. So there.
Top six things I learned from my Voyager experience:
1. Anything can be fixed with nanoprobes.
2. Taking a Borg to a bar makes for a cheap date.
3. You can't not watch a Borg and an E.M.H. sing "You Are My Sunshine."
4. Neelix likes it Klingon style.
5. Never drink meat nectar.
6. Korean men never get laid in the Delta Quadrant.
Trailer's out. A year before the release date. A year. Not gonna read the book now. Just going to wait for the movie. Note: I will beat senseless the person who gives the story away, just so you know.
More Goodies:
Saint Ralph
Must Love Dogs (Diane Lane. Rowr.)
Rize
Batman Begins (That horse. That awesome horse.)
The internet is so weird. Way weird. Too weird. Oh my god.
Warning: kinda loud. Also, probably NSFW, because your co-workers will think you're insane.
Addendum: What the hell?
Possibly The Greatest Video Ever. Or Not.
A bit NSFW.
About damn time. Judd Apatow's follow-up to Freaks and Geeks. Also snubbed by morons.
Le Building is a short awesome extremely manic little film. A must see.
Note: NSFW due to a tiny little part.
Wallace And Gromit - The Curse of The Were Rabbit
Addendum: This one is for taking your girlfriend to, in order to score the big points.
Just started watching season one. What the hell is up with that theme song? I honestly thought that they pulled a b-side form some shitty 80's hair metal band and just slapped it on there. At least 4000 other people agree with me. Anyway, I'm going to go through the first season, but if I'm not really into it by then, I'm gonna dump Trek altogether for a while. Pretty sure nothing's gonna beat DS9.
I've been meaning to watch all the Joss Whedon stuff anyway.
