Happy New Year!

Hi.

I had to take a major role in moving the entire TV station I work at to a new building. This has been my life for nearly two months, and the next few weeks will be no cakewalk either, as I get everything put back together. Nonetheless, I made only one new year's resolution, and that's to either do a blog post, ebay listing, or some other type of work/contribution online every day. I enjoy it, and I think my neglect of it has had a negative effect on me.

Here's hoping.

Happy 2007. May it suck less than 2006.

Freddy Fender - 1937-2006

that hair is awesome.

When I was about seven or eight, my favorite singer in the whole world was Freddy Fender. I had one of his albums on cassette (To put the time frame in perspective, this was so long ago it was before the clear plastic or black and clear plastic clamshell cases caught on. The tape was in a solid blue plastic one piece case.), and I wore the damn thing out.

Anyway, I was on a flight with my dad (and my sister, I think) to god knows where, and Freddy Freaking Fender was on the same plane. My dad took me up to meet him.

The details of the exchange are hazy to me, and all I really remember is a feeling of awe. To a little kid, it was like meeting the friendly genetic amalgam of Jesus and The Hulk.

Honestly, I haven't kept up with his career in recent years, but It really doesn't matter. All I need to know is that he was really nice to a little kid that liked him. Thanks, Freddy.

The 1K Project / Zudeo / Video Whores

so many cars...

I was looking for a hi-res copy of The 1K Project when I came across Zudeo. It seems to be an offshoot of Azureus. If you're a video whore like myself, preferring to find higher-than-youtube-quality videos and keeping them, you must check this out. It's potentially awesome.

Note: I haven't tried the Zudeo client. I just clicked the videos, and Azureus opens them up like a regular Torrent. Only way faster.

Geek Mafia.

"i'll do ya this 1 favz0r..."

Rick Dakan's self published novel is generating a good bit of blog buzz as a fun read. He's selling it for only a fiver, or you can download the pdf for free (Note: Right-click and save target if you don't want your browser to poop all over you.). I haven't read it yet, but the blurb is right up my alley:

"Fired from a job he hated at a company he loved, videogame designer Paul Reynolds is drowning his sorrows in late-morning margaritas when he meets an alluring, pink-haired conwoman named Chloe. With her gang of techno-pirate friends, Chloe helps Paul not only take revenge on his former employers, but also extort a small fortune from them in the process. What more could a recently unemployed, over-worked videogame designer in Silicon Valley ask for?"

Everyone's Out To Get Me.

I don't want to get all solipsist up in this mofo, but do you ever get the feeling that there's a group of people meeting on a daily basis, figuring out ways to make your life suck that extra little bit? All I wanted to do for my birthday was go to First Saturday to get some computer parts, and the school I work (sort of) for decided to cut off all the receivers to our TV station for three hours during the absolute busiest part of the week, making it near impossible for me to go.

Then my power steering went out on my new (to me) car.

I'm on to you bastards.

Addendum: As my server posted this entry, the washing machine water backed up into the tub. You are one tenacious frakking secret society.

Stupidest. Comic. Ever.

hi! i'm ridiculous!

Ok. You had Superman. Then Batman. Then Aliens. Then Predator. Then Aliens vs Predator. Then Batman vs Superman. Then Batman vs Predator. Then Superman vs Aliens. Then Batman vs Aliens vs Predator.

So of course, it's time for Batman and Superman vs Aliens vs Predator. What the hell.

Next Up: Spiderman vs Batman vs Godzilla vs Aliens vs Predator vs The Spice Girls vs Superman vs The X-Men vs The Schmoo vs those Queer Eye guys. Now that's a comic.

At Last! A Cure!

i can't believe i ate the whole thing.

No, not for cancer, or HIV, or diabetes or any of those trifling problems. Fat dogs. There's now Slenotrol, to combat canine obesity. Really. Fat fucking dogs.

If I didn't fully believe that Pfizer was populated by gluttonous, money-fuck-crazy assholes before, I do now. Fat Dogs! JUST DON'T FEED THEM AS MUCH! WALK THEM, DAMMIT!

Where's My IT Crowd?

I am shocked, for I am not entertaining people.

As you might have seen from the countdown timer on the right (which is now counting up), The IT Crowd start date for Season 2 has come and gone with no IT Crowd. Boo.

It's a shame you can't watch season one, as it has already aired (he says with a wink).

P.S. - NBC bought the rights for a US IT Crowd next season. The Office turned out great, but Coupling did not, so I'm not holding my breath just yet. Plus I'm not looking forward to the inevitable "geek chic" mainstream magazine covers that are sure to follow.

Holy Crap. It's The iPhone.

Bootie.

click me for bootie 2006.

Bootie is one of the few San Fran LA Paris NYC Black Rock City (?) Second Life (???) parties/club events that I would love to travel for. Thankfully, the 2006 Best of Bootie compilation has been released, so I can pretend I have money. It's a good (and free) disc, but not as good as the 2005 selections. Click cover above for 2006, below for 2005.

click j-lo for...oh never mind.

TV On Your Laptop for $10? Why Not?

I went to Fry's yesterday, and they have this gadget for $40 with a $30 rebate. It's not too shabby. No HDTV (way more expensive), and you have to buy your own little antenna if you want over the air signals (cheap on ebay, or local electronics stores), but the picture's great for a $10 gadget. You can encode video in a lot of different formats and sizes, and I think I'll be using it to transfer some old VHS stuff to my PC (It comes with audio/video cables, and standard coax.). Not bad for a tenner.

Olbermann. Military Comissions Act. Smackdown.

Gotta love Olbermann. The Military Comissions Act is pontentially very dangerous, and he nails it to the wall in eight minutes.

Your Tax Dollars At Work.

I toiled wholeheartedly in the vineyards because it was fun, fun, fun. Where else could a red-blooded American boy lie, kill cheat, steal, rape and pillage with the sanction and blessing of the All-Highest?
George White, CIA MK-ULTRA worker, who ran bordellos for the CIA in the 50s, in order to drug patrons with LSD and observe the effects.

Topfit!

übung! oder du wirst zerquetscht!

I'm a sucker for picture discs, and I couldn't pass this baby up (especially for $1.50). It's 80s german (i think) exercise music, topped with lots of "eine zwei drei vier" over and over. Even more awesome is that most of the music is 80s euro dance pop hits (Yaz, anyone?). Topfit!

(I haven't got a good vinyl to MP3 solution yet, but when I do, I'll get you guys some audio. In the meantime, enjoy the picture's perm-y goodness.)

A PC Cassette Deck. Oh My God It's Awesome.

i am the greatest thing ever invented.

Finally, a place for my Martika "Toy Soldiers" cassingle! The Plus Deck ($129) mounts in a 5.25" PC slot like a CD or DVD Drive, and can be used to encode to WAV or MP3, or just for playing that late night techno mix you recorded on your uncle's deck in Dallas in 1994 (I so did).

I must own this.
